Opening Reception | Oct. 27, 2018 | 2pm-6pm
Palette Gallery invites you to celebrate the opening of NEW GROWTH, an exhibition featuring the work of Bay Area artists and the interconnectivity of food and art.
The concept of new growth is often coupled with putting down roots and creating a foundation from which to build upon. It is the reason we gather with others and celebrate that which nourishes, sustains and supports our livelihood. This foundation and means of nourishment are akin to food and community.
For the installation of NEW GROWTH, we asked local artists to explore this concept of food and art and share how their work might be of sustenance to the community.
In Diane Tate DallasKidd’s Nest Series, she draws upon common objects and found artifacts that reflect life in San Francisco neighborhoods.
"Created from dyed tree branches, painted threads and wire, the Red Nest alludes to the red thread of fate whereby souls are forever connected. The red wire makes its way into the City Nests, weaving our stories together. With the notions of nest, food and gathering in mind, I decided to play city bird and collect materials from various parts of San Francisco to create nests reflective of different neighborhoods."

Deborah Lawrence Schafer’s work conveys an ethereal quality that embodies the natural environment’s ability to transform a landscape and its relationship to time. Her botanical paintings celebrate the bounty of nature and explore the tension between the natural and developed worlds.
Founder of Rocket Glass Works, Sam Schumacher creates unique, modern designs derived from organic forms. Inspired by the boundless physical properties of glass, his work is an exploration of the connection between the natural and built environment.
Visual artist and science illustrator Jane Kim painted a larger-than-life mural on the facade of Palette to inspire people to love and protect the natural world around them.
"Reaching Out is a temporary work of public art meant to celebrate the foundation of plants and the food we make with them. A network of two-story tall roots, painted in a spectrum of color reflective of the palette, reach out to each other, illustrating the interconnectedness of the systems that build our world."
